Job Description

SEEK Teacher (Grades 2-8) 2026-2027

Position will be split between Central Pike and Southside Elementary

(Pending Budget Approval)

JOB GOAL

Creates a more challenging and varied environment beyond what the regular classroom may offer to build and enhance the ability of our elementary schools to identify gifted and talented. This includes those students who give evidence of high achievement capability in intellectual, creative, artistic, leadership, or specific academic areas and who need services and activities not ordinarily provided in a regular school program in order to fully develop those capabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Holds a valid Tennessee teacher's license with appropriate endorsement;
Has met the Tennessee Employment Standard for Gifted Education as determined by the Wilson County School System or has Gifted Education Certification (preferred)
Has strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills; and
Meets health and physical requirements.

REPORTS TO Building Principal and/or Designated Supervisor

SCHEDULE 200 Days

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of state law and the Board’s policy on evaluation of the Director of Schools.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Oversees referrals, testing, and placement of students in SEEK program.
Meets with elementary teachers for the planning of differentiated lessons for identified gifted students.
Provides professional development to teachers of gifted students.
Works with student groups, and possibly individual students, in implementing special projects and activities.
Creates lesson plans that meet the needs, interests, and abilities of the students and are aligned with NAGC standards and TN State Standards.
Prepares for assigned classes and shows evidence of preparation upon request of his/her immediate supervisor;
Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning and maintains discipline in the classroom;
Instructs students in subject matter, using a variety of teaching strategies and materials; instructional media, and technology.
Instructs students in a supportive atmosphere; providing independent study, research, and development of communication and higher level thinking skills.
Assigns lessons and corrects papers;
Prepares, administers, corrects, and provides specific feedback on student work;
Evaluates student progress on a regular basis;
Issues reports to inform parents of student progress;
Keeps attendance as required by the board of education;
Observes students to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance and reports, as appropriate;
Supervises in the halls and during assemblies and programs, as assigned;
Fosters cooperative social behavior;
Reports to the principal any reasonable suspicion that a student's health or welfare has been or appears to have been harmed as a result of abuse or neglect;
Represents the school, the school district, and the community in a positive manner;
Meets assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated;
Participates in both faculty meetings and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops;
Complies with board policies, school rules, and administrative regulations; and
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job may require lifting or carrying of objects that exceed fifty (50) pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds.  Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:
