Job Description

MCS Special Education Resource/Inclusion Teachers (3 Positions)

Due to upcoming expansion and restructuring of both Maryville High School and Maryville Junior High School along with Montgomery Ridge and Coulter Grove Intermediate Schools, Maryville City Schools is currently seeking to fill three full-time Special Education Teacher positions. These positions will serve one of three schools during the 2026-2027 school year and then transition to serve either Maryville High School or Maryville Junior High School in the 2027-2028 school year. MHS will become a comprehensive 9-12 high school while MJHS will serve grades 7-8 with our intermediate schools serving students in grades 4-6.

Positions: (These Positions report to the School Principal)

7th Grade SpEd Teacher at Coulter Grove Intermediate School in 2026-27.  Transition to 7th Grade SpEd Teacher at MJHS in 2027-28.
7th Grade SpED Teacher at Montgomery Ridge Intermediate School in 2026-27.  Transition to 9-12 SpEd Teacher at MHS in 2027-28.
9th Grade SpED Teacher at MJHS in 2026-27.  Transition to 9-12 SpED Teacher at MHS in 2027-28.

Required Qualifications:

Current Tennessee Teaching Certificate: 145 Interventionist 6-12, 460 Sped Modified K-12 or 191 Provisional Interventionist? 6-12?

Purpose Statement

The position of Teacher (Special Education) was established for the purpose of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for developing special education students' success in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living; supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group an individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines: collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

Essential Functions

Serve as a case manager, support/guide students, develop IEPs, and communicate effectively with all stakeholders?
Implement and deliver resource instruction in Math and ELA, as well intervention through Academic Success
Serve as a co-teacher in Science and Math classes, providing instruction and re-teaching to students
Plan with co-teachers to ensure consistent, strong classroom instruction and supports?
Serve as a team member in determining and implementing student accommodations, referral, eligibility,
placement, and individual education program development
Comply with local, state, and federal regulations regarding special education records, reports, and services
Assess students’ needs and develop an individualized education program for students with disabilities
Analyze student data on a consistent basis to meet the individual needs of students and deliver appropriate instruction?
Past positive experience in leading and/or participating in a professional learning community structure focused on increasing student learning and achievement
Highly motivated teacher with the ability to cognitively engage the teenage learner and facilitate the instructional process, higher order thinking, problem solving, real- world connections for students
Be an active member of the faculty and staff?

Other Functions

Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands:  some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity.  The position generally requires 15% sitting, 20% walking, and 65% standing.  This position is typically performed in a hazard free, clean, and healthy environment.

Ability to perform any physical duties associated with this position (e.g., lifting up to 50 pounds on

a regular basis, sitting for long periods of time, walking, seeing, standing for extended periods of

time, etc.).
