Job Description
Minimum Qualifications and Training:
Valid TN Teaching license with appropriate ESL (PreK-12) endorsement
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Knowledge of federal, state, and district requirements regarding English learners
Governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated
Knowledge and understanding of second language acquisition theory, second language acquisition theory and culturally responsive teaching practices (e.g., SIOP model)
Proficient use of computers to include spreadsheet, database and word processing applications
Experience using student information systems (e.g., PowerSchool and TN PULSE) preferred
Must be physically and mentally able to perform the responsibilities and duties of the position
Any other qualifications that the Superintendent deems appropriate and acceptable
Goals: The ESL Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality English language instruction to multilingual learners in grades K–12. The teacher will deliver standards-based instruction aligned with Tennessee Academic Standards and ELPA21 standards, supporting students in developing proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while promoting academic achievement across content areas.
Performance Responsibilities:
Provide direct ESL instruction to English Learners (ELs) in pull-out and/or co-teaching classroom settings
Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans aligned to Tennessee Academic Standards and ELPA21 standards
Administer and interpret language proficiency assessments (ELPA21 Screener and ELPA21 Summative)
Collaborate with general education teachers to support EL students in content-area instruction
Develop Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) as required
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation for compliance
Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and language development
Participate in IEP, 504, and RTI meetings as appropriate
Support compliance with federal, state, and district policies regarding English Learners
Present and engage in ongoing professional development related to ESL best practices
Ability to analyze student data and use it to inform instruction
Utilize and access student information systems (TNPulse, Powerschool, AIMSWEB, etc.) to manage caseloads, create ILPs, administer assessments, collect data, etc.
Differentiate instruction and activities for varying English proficiency levels
Motivates students and provides consistent reinforcement of learning skills and provides continuous assessment and feedback to students for all learning activities
Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, and district and administrative regulations
Assists administration in implementing all policies, and rules governing student activities and conduct
Sponsors student activities/clubs/teams/organization and tutor students as requested
Performs other related duties as assigned or directed by the Principal, Superintendent or designee
Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises students as designated on the class roster and caseload. Also supervises students in general common areas when class is not in session.

Reports to: Principal
Salary: Salary determined based on education/experience per the ACS Teacher Salary Schedule- Current salary schedule 25-26 ACS Teacher Salary Schedule.
The ELL teacher maintains a forty-hour (40) workweek and works additional hours as required to carry out all of the duties and responsibilities of the position. This is 10 -month position.
