Job Description

Job Opportunity: 5th Grade Science Teacher

Southwest Elementary School | Clinton Public Schools

Southwest Elementary is seeking a professional and dedicated 5th Grade Science Teacher to join our 2nd–5th grade campus. This role is focused on fostering a love for discovery through age-appropriate, hands-on learning. The successful candidate will be responsible for making science accessible and engaging while ensuring students build a strong foundation for their future academic years.

Position Overview

Location: Southwest Elementary, Clinton, OK

Grade Level: 5th Grade

Reporting To: April Miner, Principal

Contract Status: Full-Time, Certified

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Instruction: Plan and deliver engaging lessons that cover 5th-grade topics such as Earth’s systems, ecosystems, and the properties of matter.

Hands-On Learning: Organize and lead safe, age-appropriate classroom experiments that allow students to learn through doing.

Student Engagement: Create a positive classroom culture that encourages students to ask questions, make observations, and explore the natural world.

Collaborative Planning: Work closely with the 5th-grade team to ensure science lessons support overall student development and literacy.

Parent Communication: Maintain regular, professional contact with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities.

Classroom Management: Establish clear routines and expectations that ensure a safe and productive environment for all students during activities and investigations.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field.

Licensure: Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education.

Skills:

Ability to explain scientific concepts in a way that is clear and exciting.

Strong organizational skills to manage classroom supplies and activity materials.

Proficiency with basic classroom technology (interactive boards, Chromebooks, etc.).

Attributes: Patience, creativity, and a professional commitment to the success of every student.
