Job Description
MS/HS Math Teacher
Blanchard Campus | The Academies of Oklahoma
Great teaching changes lives… and in middle and high school, it shapes how students think, reason, and solve problems.
At The Academies of Oklahoma (TAO), we are building something meaningful from the ground up at our Blanchard campus. Our schools are grounded in strong relationships, high expectations, and a commitment to preparing students for college, career, and life.
We are seeking an educator who believes in strong instruction, deep relationships, and the power of mathematics—and who is excited to help build a high-quality math program within a growing, mission-driven school.
About the Role
The MS/HS Math Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-aligned instruction.
This teacher plays a critical role in helping students develop deep conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and strong mathematical reasoning—while establishing consistent, high-quality instructional practices within a founding campus environment.
This role reports to the Head of School and works closely with the instructional team to ensure alignment and student growth.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Excellence
- Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction grounded in Spartan Prime standards
- Build students’ conceptual understanding alongside procedural fluency
- Design lessons that require students to think critically, problem-solve, and explain their reasoning
- Use high-quality tasks that promote productive struggle and deeper understanding
- Ensure students have frequent opportunities to practice, receive feedback, and achieve mastery
Mathematical Thinking & Reasoning
- Develop students’ ability to justify thinking, model problems, and communicate mathematically
- Create opportunities for discourse where students explain, defend, and refine their thinking
- Emphasize accuracy, precision, and perseverance in problem-solving
- Connect math concepts across units and to real-world applications
Data-Driven Instruction
- Use assessment data (including NWEA MAP and classroom assessments) to guide instruction
- Identify gaps in understanding and provide targeted, responsive support
- Monitor student growth and adjust instruction to ensure all students make progress
Classroom Culture
- Build a structured, engaging classroom with clear routines and expectations
- Develop strong relationships with students rooted in trust and accountability
- Foster a culture where mistakes are part of learning and students are expected to persist
Collaboration & Growth
- Participate in PLCs, instructional coaching, and professional development
- Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen alignment and instructional quality
- Reflect on practice and commit to continuous improvement as part of a growing team
Who You Are
- You believe all students can succeed in mathematics with the right support and instruction
- You are passionate about developing deep understanding—not just getting the right answer
- You are excited by the opportunity to help build a strong math program from the ground up
- You value strong relationships and understand they drive student success
- You balance structure and engagement, holding high expectations while supporting learners
- You are committed to growing your practice and contributing to a team
Why TAO?
- The opportunity to help build a new campus and shape its academic vision
- Mission-driven work that directly impacts students and community
- A strong, relational culture grounded in the Spartan mindset
- Ongoing support, coaching, and opportunities for professional growth
- A team committed to building something meaningful… together
