MS/HS English Teacher

About the Role
The MS/HS English Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-aligned instruction in reading, writing, and language across middle and high school.
This teacher plays a critical role in developing students into thoughtful readers, skilled writers, and confident communicators... while helping establish strong academic systems and classroom culture in a founding campus environment.
This role reports to the Head of School and works closely with the instructional team to ensure strong alignment and student growth.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Excellence
- Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction grounded in Spartan Prime standards
- Provide strong, explicit instruction in reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and grammar
- Use complex, high-quality texts to engage students in critical thinking and analysis
- Design writing experiences that build clarity, structure, and authentic voice
- Balance foundational skill-building with deeper analysis and student discourse
Literacy & Communication
- Support students in becoming independent, strategic readers across disciplines
- Develop students’ ability to write across genres, purposes, and audiences
- Create frequent opportunities for students to speak, listen, and engage in academic discussion
- Reinforce literacy as a foundational skill for success in all content areas
Data-Driven Instruction
- Use assessment data (including NWEA MAP and classroom assessments) to guide instruction
- Identify learning gaps and provide targeted, responsive support
- Monitor student growth and adjust instruction to ensure all students make progress
Classroom Culture
- Build a structured, engaging learning environment with clear routines and expectations
- Develop strong relationships with students rooted in trust, consistency, and accountability
- Foster a classroom culture where students feel safe to take risks, share ideas, and grow
Collaboration & Growth
- Actively participate in PLCs, instructional coaching, and professional development
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure alignment and strengthen instruction
- Reflect on practice and commit to continuous improvement as part of a growing team
