Job Description

Middle School History Teacher

About the Role

The Middle School History Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-aligned instruction in social studies.

This teacher plays a critical role in helping students develop historical thinking skills, curiosity about the world, and the ability to analyze people, events, and ideas across time.

This role reports to the Head of School and works closely with the instructional team to support student growth.


Key Responsibilities

Instructional Excellence

  • Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction grounded in Spartan Prime standards
  • Teach students to analyze historical events, understand cause and effect, and evaluate multiple perspectives
  • Use primary and secondary sources to deepen student understanding
  • Design engaging lessons that connect history to students’ lives and current events
  • Balance content knowledge with skill-building in reading, writing, and discussion

Critical Thinking & Literacy

  • Support students in reading and interpreting complex informational texts
  • Develop students’ ability to write about history using evidence and clear reasoning
  • Facilitate meaningful classroom discussions that promote inquiry and perspective-taking

Data-Driven Instruction

  • Use assessment data to guide instruction and support student growth
  • Provide targeted support and differentiation to meet diverse learning needs

Classroom Culture

  • Build a structured, engaging classroom environment with clear expectations
  • Develop strong relationships with students rooted in trust and accountability
  • Foster a classroom where students feel safe to ask questions, share ideas, and think critically

Collaboration & Growth

  • Participate in PLCs, coaching cycles, and professional development
  • Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen instruction and alignment
  • Reflect on practice and commit to continuous improvement
