Middle School English Teacher The Academies of Oklahoma

About the Role
The Middle School English Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-aligned instruction in reading, writing, and language.
This teacher plays a critical role in helping students become thoughtful readers, strong writers, and confident communicators, while building the academic habits needed for success in high school and beyond.
This role reports to the Head of School and works closely with the instructional team to support student growth.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Excellence
- Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction grounded in Spartan Prime standards
- Provide strong instruction in reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and grammar
- Use high-quality texts to engage students in critical thinking and meaningful discussion
- Design writing experiences that develop clarity, structure, and voice
- Balance skill development with opportunities for deeper analysis and student thinking
Literacy & Communication
- Support students in becoming independent, strategic readers
- Build students’ ability to write across multiple genres and purposes
- Create opportunities for students to speak, listen, and engage in academic discourse
- Integrate literacy across content when appropriate
Data-Driven Instruction
- Use assessment data (including NWEA MAP and classroom assessments) to guide instruction
- Identify student needs and provide targeted support and differentiation
- Monitor student growth and adjust instruction to ensure progress for all learners
Classroom Culture
- Build a structured, engaging classroom environment with clear expectations
- Develop strong relationships with students rooted in trust and accountability
- Foster a culture where students feel safe to share ideas, take risks, and grow
Collaboration & Growth
- Participate in PLCs, instructional coaching, and professional development
- Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen instruction and alignment
- Reflect on practice and commit to continuous improvement
