Job Description

High School English Teacher (9–12)

Santa Fe South Schools – Santa Fe South High School
Oklahoma City, OK | 190–196 Day Contract (196 days for new teachers; 190 days for returning teachers)

About Santa Fe South High School

Santa Fe South High School is the original campus of Santa Fe South Charter Schools- opened nearly 25 years ago with just 200 students and a bold belief that zip code should never determine destiny. Today, we serve nearly 1,000 students in a beautiful, thoughtfully designed campus that helped bring new life to the Crossroads Mall area of Oklahoma City.

Students describe our high school in one word: familia. Relationships matter here. Teachers know students deeply, push them to achieve at high levels, and prepare them to have a seat at any table- ready to succeed now and in whatever path they choose later in life.

We are seeking a mission-driven High School English Teacher who believes in the power of literacy to open doors and who embraces coaching, feedback, and continuous growth in pursuit of excellence for students.

The Role

The High School English Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in literature and composition that prepares students for college-level reading, writing, speaking, and thinking. This teacher will create a classroom culture grounded in high expectations, strong relationships, and a deep belief in students’ potential.

Instructional Responsibilities

Grounded in the SFS ELA instructional framework, the High School English Teacher will:

Teach complex, grade-level texts that build knowledge, vocabulary, and analytical thinking
Design and facilitate close reading experiences that prioritize evidence-based discussion and writing
Explicitly teach writing through structured practice, revision cycles, and meaningful feedback
Develop students’ command of grammar, syntax, and academic language in authentic contexts
Use formative and summative data to adjust instruction and accelerate student growth
Prepare students for success on state assessments and postsecondary academic demands

Instruction at SFS is purposeful, text-driven, and rooted in high cognitive demand. Teachers are expected to plan intentionally, anticipate misconceptions, and ensure all students engage in productive struggle.

Culture & Relationships

At SFS High School, teaching extends beyond content. Our teachers:

Build strong, respectful relationships with students and families
Uphold a culture of high expectations for behavior, effort, and achievement
Communicate frequently and proactively with families
Contribute positively to a campus culture of familia
Serve as advisors, mentors, and advocates for students

Professional Growth & Mindset

Actively seeks feedback and implements it with urgency
Reflects on practice and demonstrates measurable growth over time
Collaborates with colleagues in planning and problem-solving
Embraces accountability for student outcomes
Is deeply mission-driven and committed to expanding opportunity for students in Oklahoma City

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (required); Oklahoma teaching certification (or willingness/ability to obtain)
Strong content knowledge in literature, writing, and language instruction
Demonstrated ability to hold students to high academic expectations
Alignment with Santa Fe South’s mission and core values
