Job Description

Position Overview:

We are seeking a person to teach high school students in laboratory sciences and environmental science. This person should be passionate about designing inquiry-based learning experiences aligned to the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Science, engage students in scientific investigation and evidence-based reasoning, integrate laboratory and engineering practices, and prepare students for college, career, and citizenship through authentic application of scientific concepts.

Applicants should be able to provide evidence via the interview process of:

Strong subject area knowledge
Experience developing, and/or willingness to develop pedagogical skill and relational classroom management strategies
Growth mindset that positions students as the center of the work of teaching and learning and desires to disrupt systems of oppression and close achievement gaps via public education.
Enthusiasm for learning and implementing innovative instructional approaches including project-based learning.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree is required, while a degree in education, science, or a related field is preferred
Experience working with secondary students in an educational setting (preferred)
Teaching certification or licensure is preferred but not required
Strong knowledge of many dimensions of scientific concepts and practices
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Passion for teaching and a commitment to student success
Proficiency in educational technology and digital learning tools

Working Conditions:

Teachers typically work indoors in a classroom and lab setting, with regular opportunities for hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and occasional outdoor or experiential learning activities. This role may involve standing for extended periods, facilitating lab activities, interacting with students and colleagues, and attending meetings or professional development sessions outside of regular school hours.
