Theater Teacher – Job Description

The Leadership School prepares students to be in the driver’s seat of their own learning and to navigate the path toward the lives they imagine for themselves.  We are the first and only public charter school in St. Louis County, paving the way for educational choice and opportunity for all families in the St. Louis area.  We opened our doors in 2022 and serve K-5 students in the Normandy area. Theater Teacher

As the Theater Teacher, you will launch our elementary theater course at TLS. The Theater Teacher is responsible for planning and executing theater arts curriculum that teaches students the foundations of stagecraft, acting, and the process of script analysis and character development.  This includes cultivating in students an appreciation for theater arts and theater history . This role reports to the School Principal and receives coaching from the Director of Student Supports.

Key Responsibilities

Planning and Executing Engaging Theater Lessons:

Develop and execute engaging lesson plans that teach students foundational skills in the theater arts such as improvisation, voice projection, stage presence, and more.
Adapt lessons and materials to meet diverse student needs including supporting students at a variety of levels in reading scripts.
Create a positive and collaborative classroom environment where students are safe and feel empowered to take risks as they explore theater.
Organize and manage data collection processes for monitoring student progress and course effectiveness.
Research and implement evidence-based strategies, materials, and tools for theater instruction.

Key Competencies and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree highly preferred
Missouri teacher certification (or willingness to become certified)
Ability to thrive in a start-up environment
Flexible, adaptable and urgent for the sake of students, families and staff
Consistently model high expectations for students
Deep understanding of fundamental coding
Deep understanding of Missouri state standards for learning
Experience designing high-quality instructional resources
Experience in a start-up setting preferred
Track record of success as a teacher

What We Offer

Starting Salary Range: $50,000 - $75,000 commensurate with experience

Staff who meet their yearly performance goals will receive a salary stipend of up to 8% of their annual salary
