Job Description

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Instructor

School of the Osage, in partnership with our community, educators and families, will equip all students to reach their maximum potential for a lifetime of success.

Type of Position: ESOL Instructor

Category: Non-Certified/Certified

Degrees preferred:
A minimum of at least 60 hours of college coursework.
ESOL Certification (K-12) is preferred.

Performance Expectations:

Directly responsible to the principal in each building
Coordinate and provide programs for services to English Language Learners (ELL)
Coordinate and collaborate with fellow ESOL teachers and the ESOL Department Chair regarding caseload distribution and monitoring of incoming students
Provide in-service regardingthe educational/social-emotional needs of ELL students
Provide consultation and intervention strategies to staff members and parents of specific ELL students
Assess eligibility and proficiency levels for ELL students, including the administration of mandatory screening/evaluation assessments.
Initiate and maintain academic plans/programs for ELL students, providing direct instructional services as necessary
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
Assist with planning and initiating program offerings to staff, ELL students and their peers.
Prepare and provide progam requests for the purchase of recommended supplies, materials, equipment and services
Responsible for organizing his/her classroom in a manner to assure optimal teaching and learning
Responsible for establishing all reasonable classroom rules and regulations for the conduct of the students
Responsible for the discipline of students, but shall consult with the Principal, when needed
Expected to manage instructional time effectively and maintain a high level of student time-on-task
Expected to monitor student performance in a variety of ways: oral, written, and other forms of informal and formal assessments
Expected to evaluate student academic growth, maintain accurate records, prepare progress and grade reports, and communicate frequently with parents on individual student progress
Maintain a school atmosphere in which character, self-reliance, responsible behavior, and a positive self-image are of prime importance
Complete all reports as required, including student evaluation, inventories, orders, curriculum work, and lesson plans
Attend faculty meetings, in-service meetings, team meetings, grade level/department meetings as required
Supervise students in out-of-class activities as required
Share in sponsorship of student activities and participate in faculty/community committees
Supervise student teachers, and volunteers when applicable
Collaborate with other teachers about acceleration and enrichment of high achieving and gifted students
To contact parents routinely to discuss student’s successes and areas of concern
Expected to treat all students in a fair and equitable manner and interact effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and community members
Expected to pursue focused, job-embedded professional development activities; read professional journals; collaborate with peers; be involved in book study groups; and strive for continuous improvement
To understand and abide by the policies, procedures, and regulations of the school district/building
Other duties as assigned

Salary: Commensurate based on experience

Contract Type: 9 months
