Job Title: Part- Time English Language Learner (Certified in Grades K-5, 6-12 or K-12)

Reports To: Special Education Director and Building Administration

Employee Status: Full Time, Exempt, Certified Teacher Salary Schedule

JOB SUMMARY: The English Language Learner (ELL Teacher) develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of the districts ELL students. Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows State mandated due process procedures and sound understanding of the Missouri Learning Standards and Common Core State Standards.

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

Develop school environments where all students are actively and meaningfully engaged in rigorous instruction and authentic learning tasks.
Engage families as partners in meaningful ways.
Build the capacity of diverse teams that are more reflective of our students
Nurture an open, collaborative, and trusting environment because the work is enormous, deeply personal, emotional and often difficult.
Engage in on-going job-embedded professional development through co-teaching and co-planning.
Assesses the needs of students and provides support so students can access and master grade-level standards.
Collaborate with general education or content teachers to co-plan, co-deliver, and individualize instruction for all students in a class; work together creatively to accommodate the language proficiencies, cultural diversity and educational backgrounds of the students in the class; and overcome instructional challenges constructively.
Perform educational assessments of students, including an observation of the student, review of the student's educational history, conferences with the student's teachers and parents, and an evaluation and analysis of the student's academic performance and learning characteristics.
Use language teaching strategies to increase English Proficiency for students who speak a language other than English at home.
Report educational assessment findings to parents, classroom teachers, supervisor, and administration.
Complete quarterly progress reports on each student in the program
Provides individual and small group push-in or pull-out instruction based on creating a schedule that best meets the language needs of students.
Actively participate in the deliberations and classification of ELL students and assists in planning, coordinating, developing, monitoring and evaluating as assigned.
Maintain confidential records on all referred students and student/parent contacts in accordance with federal and state law.
Provide thorough and timely reports, data, and information, and make sure the ELL Department stays in compliance with federal/state rules and regulation.
Serve as a resource to school personnel on the nature, causes, and solutions of English language acquisition problems of students.
Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
Assume responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals
Demonstrate gains in student performance.
Participate in meetings, training, and professional development.
Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating, etc.
Act in a professional and ethical manner at all times and comply with school policies, procedures, and expectations.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning.

Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:

Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises or during school activities.
Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures.
Collaborates and consults with educational professionals and community service providers (i.e., social services, public health, medical providers etc.) regarding the needs of students.
Provides consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptions, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature apparent or as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Ability Required:

Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of the English language learner area.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of student.
Thorough knowledge of school rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior.
Ability to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reports.
Ability to effectively an analyze needs and problems objectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration and the general public.
Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
Knowledge of relevant technology including the use of technology such as I-pads to individualize instruction.
Meet professional teacher education requirements of school district and state.
Knowledge and skills in working with children with ADD and behavior and emotional disabilities.
Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.

Certification:

Must hold, be eligible for, maintain a Valid Teaching Certificate through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for the area of application for all grade levels notated above.
Bachelor's Degree required.

Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift, move and/or support up to 10 pounds or more at times.

Background Check:
Employment in this position is contingent upon consent to and successful completion of a pre-employment background check, which may include a criminal background check, reference checks, verification of work history, and verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, with results acceptable to the Oak Grove R-VI School District. Background check information will be used in a confidential, non-discriminatory manner consistent with state and federal law.

Term of Employment: 9 months (in accordance with the Board Approved District Calendar)
