POSITION TITLE: Elementary Teacher - Music
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
LOCATION: Hawthorne

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Elementary Education or related field
Valid Missouri teaching certificate in Music
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate

PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Elementary Music Teacher provides engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction that supports creativity, musical literacy, and appreciation for the arts. This position fosters a positive learning environment where students explore singing, rhythm, movement, and musical expression while aligning instruction with district curriculum and Missouri Learning Standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction and Curriculum

Plan and deliver standards-based music instruction aligned with district curriculum and Missouri Learning Standards
Teach foundational music concepts including rhythm, melody, movement, and musical expression
Provide opportunities for singing, instrument exploration, and creative performance
Differentiate instruction to support learning needs and abilities
Prepare students for performances or music-related activities as appropriate

Classroom Environment and Student Support

Maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive music classroom environment

Promote creativity, collaboration, and respect through music activities

Support students’ social-emotional development through artistic expression

Ensure safe use and care of musical instruments and equipment

Assessment and Communication

Assess student progress in music skills, participation, and understanding
Maintain accurate records of student learning and participation
Communicate with classroom teachers and families regarding performances or student progress
Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school meetings as assigned

Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities

Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support school-wide initiatives

Participate in professional development related to music education and instructional practices

Assist with school programs, concerts, or special events as assigned

Follow district policies, procedures, and professional standards

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.

Attend meetings as assigned.

Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
Remain current on instructional practices in education.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal

Strong musical knowledge and instructional skills
Ability to engage young learners through music and movement
Effective classroom management and communication abilities
Organizational skills for managing equipment and performances
Ability to collaborate with staff and build positive relationships with students

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Ability to stand, move, and lead musical activities for extended periods
Ability to lift or transport musical instruments and equipment
Ability to supervise students in classroom and performance environments
Participation in school events or meetings outside of regular hours as needed

ATTENDANCE

Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position

Salary Grade
Certified

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 month contract year
Annual contract for school year and Extended School Year, if applicable, in accordance with the provisions of Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified staff.
Background clearance required; the results of which must be satisfactory to the District.

EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated by the Building Principal in accordance with district policies and teacher evaluation procedures.
