Job Description

Logan-Rogersville High School is seeking applications for a JROTC instructor for the 2026-2027 school year.

Job Title:                    TEACHER - JROTC ARMY INSTRUCTOR (AI)

Department:              Student Services

Reports to:                 Principal

Classification:            Exempt  / Certified Staff

Employment:             11 months / Contract

Evaluation:                Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board’s policy on                                              evaluation of certified personnel.

SUMMARY

Teachers are responsible for providing direct instruction to students and maintaining an environment conducive to learning which is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Enforce Cadet Command guidance and school rules, regulations and policies while assisting the Senior Army Instructor (SAI) in maintaining good order and discipline within the JROTC unit.
Provide advice to the SAI as they work together as a team to accomplish the JROTC mission while promoting school rules, regulations and policies.
Maintain good relations with school authorities, faculty and the student body
Assist the SAI in the conduct of a public affairs campaign in the local area middle and elementary schools, among school and community officials, civic groups, parent-teacher groups and other individuals or groups.
Assist in recruitment and retention of JROTC students while executing the curriculum and the integrated extra-curricular activities.
Follow and execute yearly training guidance provided by the SAI.
Maintain contact with parents of all cadets experiencing academic or behavioral problems.
Assist the SAI to ensure JROTC unit areas are neat and orderly; current chain of command photos are posted; cadet creed, core abilities and mission statement are present; and all sensitive items are secured and are inventoried regularly.
Share teaching responsibilities among all JROTC instructors in the unit.  Instructors should teach by expertise and preference in subject areas rather than by Leadership Education and Training (LET) levels.  The AI is responsible for teaching JROTC curriculum
Assist in maintaining all necessary documents and information to adhere to regulatory requirements and school guidance.
Assist the SAI in maintaining accountability of all equipment including, but not limited to, items requiring formal and informal accountability, as well as durable items costing $5,000 or less, i.e., automation, computers, audiovisual equipment, etc.
Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
Provides instruction to students.
Establishes and maintains a positive classroom environment to promote learning.
Creates and implement a classroom disciplinary plan.
Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior, develops reasonable rules for classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
Creates lesson plans and activities to implement and supplement instruction.
Implements effective teaching techniques, strategies and skills to meet instructional objectives of curriculum goals.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Strives to implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
Is aware of, and recognizes, the characteristics of learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required for evaluation.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintains accurate student records including attendance, grades and discipline, as appropriate for grade level.
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom.
Participates in building, grade level and subject area committees.
Participates in professional development activities.
Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
Completes and submits forms and required reports in a timely manner.
Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
Participates as a member of an IEP team, 504 team or other student assistance teams as requested.
Implements special educational plans such as 504 plans, individual educational programs and individual health plans.
Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for each teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Strives to be a positive role model.
Reports suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassments as directed by Board policy.
Prepares lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher.
Maintains confidential nature of all school-related matters.
Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor or Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS

Background Checks

Clearance on all background checks required by law that is satisfactory to the Administration.

Education/Experience

Associate's Degree required, Bachelor's Degree preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Army JROTC certification

Noncommissioned Officers (E-6 to E-9) and at least 8 years of cumulative honorable service

Appropriate Missouri DESE certification, or active progression toward certification

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Language

Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, Board policy, administrative procedures and forms and governmental regulations and guidance. Complete forms, write reports and engage in written correspondence with parents. Present information effectively and respond to questions. Write clear and complete lesson plans.

Computation

Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning

Solve a variety of problems in many different situations. Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students.

Technology

Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use. Use district software for recording grades and finding student information. Utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district.

Additional Skills and Abilities

Identify needs and abilities of individual students and to adapt instructional methods accordingly. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents. Perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Physical Requirements

The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak as a major function of the job. Regularly required to speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously. Must be able to move around the classroom. Must have close moderate and distance vision ability. Regularly required to read handwritten or printed material.

Must meet the physical standards outlined in Cadent Command Regulation 145-2.

Physical requirements also include, but are not limited to, sitting (normal seated position), standing, walking (level or uneven surface), bending/twisting neck, bending/twisting at the waist, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, reaching, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), carrying objects (up to 50 lbs.) while walking, pushing, pulling, presence of heat (summer high temperatures, high humidity, ovens, furnaces, etc.), presence of cold (winter low temperatures, walk-in refrigerator/freezer).

Employee can be expected to help students with their mobility needs.

Hours / Attendance / Travel

Beginning and ending work hours will be established by the supervisor. Consistent and regular attendance is an essential component of student learning.  In-district travel may be necessary due to grade level configuration.

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess and/or outdoor classroom activities.
