Salary Grade: (Based on Education and Experience – Refer to KCPS Teacher Salary Schedule)
Reports To: School Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary
The International Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, culturally-responsive instruction within the assigned grade level and subject area, contributing to the academic success and personal development of all students in the Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) system. This role requires implementing the district's curriculum standards, using diverse instructional strategies, and fostering a positive, inclusive, and challenging learning environment that prepares students for college, career, and life. The International Teacher will collaborate with colleagues, engage with families, and actively participate in the broader school community to support the district's educational mission.
What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities)
Instructional Excellence and Curriculum Implementation:
Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and deep understanding of the subject matter.
Utilize a variety of instructional techniques and resources to address diverse learning styles, abilities, and cultural backgrounds of students.
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
Differentiate instruction to provide appropriate supports and challenges for students, including those with special needs or English language learners.
Assessment and Data Analysis:
Administer formal and informal assessments to evaluate student progress and mastery of learning objectives.
Analyze student performance data to inform instructional planning and modify teaching strategies to maximize student achievement.
Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development as required by district policies.
Classroom Management and Environment:
Establish and maintain a supportive, safe, and positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
Develop and enforce classroom rules and procedures consistent with district policy to ensure an organized and productive learning space.
Promote high standards and expectations for all students for academic performance and responsible behavior.
Professional Collaboration and Development:
Actively collaborate with grade-level or subject-area teams to plan instruction, share best practices, and analyze student work and data.
Participate in required professional development activities, faculty meetings, and district initiatives.
Maintain professional competence through continuous learning and adherence to professional standards and district policies.
Family and Community Engagement:
Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and guardians regarding student performance, instructional goals, and academic needs.
Hold parent/teacher conferences as scheduled or as needed to discuss student progress.
To Be Successful at This Job, You'll Need To: (Qualifications)
Education:
Have a minimum of a four-year (4-year) degree from an accredited college or university.
Possess a teaching qualification or certification that aligns with the intended instructional role.
Experience & Current Role:
A minimum of two (2) years of full-time, professional teaching experience in the subject and grade level to be taught.
Must currently be serving in the role of a full-time teacher in a primary or secondary school setting.
Licensure & Documentation:
Ability to provide a credential evaluation from a recognized third-party agency demonstrating equivalence to a U.S. bachelor’s degree (or higher) and teaching qualifications.
Successful completion of required background checks and immigration processes for non-immigrant teacher visa sponsorship (if applicable).
Skills & Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Demonstrated ability to manage a classroom and implement effective instructional strategies.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

Terms of Employment
Length of Work Year: 187 days (Full Teacher Calendar)
Benefits: Health and Dental Insurance are provided. The KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan is mandatory (9% contribution is required from the employee and matched by KCPS); voluntary retirement savings plans are also available.
