Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Fine Arts Specialist

FLSA: Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper state certification

REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor

LOCATION: East Elementary

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Elementary teaching certification in Missouri

Three or more years of successful teaching experience, preferably in the elementary school setting

Clear understanding of the Missouri Learning Standards related to Fine Arts (Visual Arts, Music, Theatre, Dance, as applicable)

Willingness to help develop and support a vision and mission for Fine Arts programming at East Elementary and districtwide

Knowledge of the pedagogy of highly effective instructional and artistic teaching practices

Ability to collaborate with and coach fellow educators

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Teaching experience in one or more Fine Arts disciplines (Visual Art, Music, Theatre, Dance, or integrated arts)

Degree, certification, or specialized training in a Fine Arts discipline

Experience working with adult learners, providing professional development and/or co-teaching

Willingness to provide before and/or after school Fine Arts opportunities for students

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Develop partnerships with community members, organizations, and artists to support the vision and mission of Fine Arts education at East Elementary and districtwide

Provide leadership in the identification, design, dissemination, implementation, and evaluation of promising and best practices in Fine Arts instruction

Collaborate with teachers and curriculum coordinators in the development of interdisciplinary curricula and assessments aligned with Fine Arts standards

Participate in curriculum review and design related to Fine Arts programming

Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives

Diagnose and evaluate student abilities and artistic progress in a timely and consistent manner

Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly

Plan programs of study that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students

Create and maintain a healthy and safe learning environment

Create classroom environments that are conducive to creativity, expression, and learning

Assess student accomplishments on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required

Refer students for alternative services as provided by the District (ESL, Reading, Special Reading)

Effectively implement district initiatives

Effectively collaborate with department and grade-level teachers

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations

Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors

Participate in special programs, performances, exhibits, and/or events

Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities

Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation

Serve on committees as assigned

Remain current on Fine Arts instructional practices and trends in education
