Job Description
Reports To: Building Principal
Education and Experience:
Minimum of Bachelor's degree, required
Full Missouri Certification in Science at grades 7-8, required
Additional Missouri Certification in Social Studies or other core subject, grades 7-8, preferred
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the NGSS standards and the ability to collaboratively write summative and common formative assessments
Essential Job Functions:
Maintains confidentiality of information gained through the performance and location of the position
Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, ability, and maturity of the students
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students and parents
Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives
Adequately prepares for student instruction by developing lessons which address a variety of learning modalities and include multiple activities
Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides frequent progress communications and grade reports as required
Recognizes behaviors and learning difficulties which could indicate the need for special assistance, develops alternative intervention plans for students, and implements strategies to address the special behavioral and learning needs of students
Works closely with special needs staff for the success of the students
Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required, requested to do so under reasonable terms, and as deemed appropriate for the success of the students
Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and the behavioral progress of all assigned students
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department head or principal, evaluates the job performance of aides and volunteers
Plans individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills
Instructs children in practices of personal cleanliness and self care
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy
Attends and participates in faculty meetings, in-service activities, workshops, course-work, seminars, and other activities that promote professional growth and lifelong learning for the teacher
Cooperates and collaborates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, assessments, curriculum, and methods
Other duties, as assigned
