POSITION TITLE: Elementary Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Teacher

F.L.S.A. Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper certification according to the state of Missouri.

REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: New teachers 177 days; returning teachers 174 days with benefits provided according to the Excelsior Springs School District.

JOB GOAL: To teach and develop effective programming for Elementary students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) using research-based practices to increase academic, communication, motor, and social skills.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

Develop and implement programming for students with ASD

Maintain programming notebooks

Develop and implement IEPs

Collect data and use data to drive instructional practices

Implement assistive technology and communication devices effectively

Utilize visual supports and schedules

Engage students in meaningful instructional activities using research-based best practices

Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments and develop and implement Behavior Intervention Plans

Work cooperatively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to implement programming

Attend professional development on effective instructional practices for students with ASD and implement skills effectively within the classroom setting

Supervise Paraprofessionals in the ASD classroom
