About Legal Prep
Legal Prep Charter Academy is a free, open-enrollment public charter school with a unique law-themed, college-preparatory model designed to prepare students from traditionally underserved communities for success in college, careers, and civic leadership. Founded in Chicago in 2012, Legal Prep integrates rigorous academics with real-world professional experiences, including law courses at every grade level and monthly skills-based programming with legal and business partners.
In Fall 2026, Legal Prep will open its first Indianapolis campus, launching with 6th and 9th grades and growing into a full 6–12 school. Our founding faculty will play a critical role in shaping the culture, systems, and academic excellence of the school from day one.
Position Overview
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for ensuring that students with disabilities receive high-quality, inclusive, and legally compliant instruction and support. This role combines direct instruction, case management, and collaboration with general education teachers to ensure all students can access rigorous grade-level content. As a founding teacher, you will play a critical role in building systems, culture, and instructional practices from the ground up.
Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Support
- Provide direct specialized instruction aligned to students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Deliver small-group and push-in support within general education classrooms
- Adapt and scaffold grade-level content to meet diverse learning needs
- Implement accommodations and modifications with fidelity
- Use data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
Case Management & Compliance
- Serve as the case manager for assigned students with IEPs
- Lead IEP meetings, including annual reviews and reevaluations
- Ensure all IEPs are compliant with IDEA and Indiana Article 7
- Maintain accurate documentation, service logs, and timelines
- Collaborate with related service providers and school leadership
Collaboration & Inclusion
- Partner with general education teachers to plan and deliver inclusive instruction
- Support implementation of effective co-teaching models
- Participate actively in PLCs, data meetings, and student support discussions
- Help build staff understanding of accommodations and inclusive practices
Data & Progress Monitoring
- Track and analyze IEP goal progress
- Use assessment data to group students and plan targeted interventions
- Contribute to schoolwide data systems focused on student growth and achievement
Family Partnership
- Build strong, proactive relationships with families
- Communicate regularly about student progress, services, and goals
- Facilitate collaborative and respectful IEP meetings

Qualifications
- Valid Indiana teaching license in Special Education (or ability to obtain)
- Strong knowledge of IDEA and special education compliance requirements
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs preferred
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
