About Legal Prep
Legal Prep Charter Academy is a free, open-enrollment public charter school with a unique law-themed, college-preparatory model designed to prepare students from traditionally underserved communities for success in college, careers, and civic leadership. Founded in Chicago in 2012, Legal Prep integrates rigorous academics with real-world professional experiences, including law courses at every grade level and monthly skills-based programming with legal and business partners.
In Fall 2026, Legal Prep will open its first Indianapolis campus, launching with 6th and 9th grades and growing into a full 6–12 school. Our founding faculty will play a critical role in shaping the culture, systems, and academic excellence of the school from day one.
Position Overview
Legal Prep is seeking a founding Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Teacher / Counselor to support the academic, behavioral, and emotional development of 9th grade students.
This unique hybrid role will:
- Teach a structured Social-Emotional Learning course for part of the day, and
- Provide individual and small-group counseling support for students during the remainder of the day.
This role is central to Legal Prep’s trauma-informed, restorative model and will help ensure students develop the resilience, self-awareness, and conflict resolution skills necessary for success in high school and beyond.
Responsibilities
SEL Instruction
- Teach 9th Grade SEL courses focused on study skills, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, perseverance, and goal-setting.
- Deliver curriculum aligned to trauma-informed and restorative practices.
- Support students in developing executive functioning and academic habits.
Counseling & Student Support
- Provide individual and small-group counseling services.
- Support crisis intervention and behavior support planning.
- Partner with families regarding student social-emotional needs.
- Collaborate with school leadership on restorative practices and discipline systems.
Schoolwide Impact
- Support implementation of restorative practices.
- Contribute to a positive, structured school culture.
- Participate in student support team meetings and data reviews.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, School Psychology, or related field.
- Valid Indiana license (School Counselor, LCSW, LMHC, or equivalent).
- Experience working with adolescents in school settings preferred.
- Strong background in trauma-informed practices and restorative approaches.
- Ability to build trust with students and families.
- Commitment to serving students from historically underserved communities.
- Spanish language proficiency is strongly preferred.
