About Legal Prep

Legal Prep Charter Academy is a free, open-enrollment public charter school with a unique law-themed, college-preparatory model designed to prepare students from traditionally underserved communities for success in college, careers, and civic leadership. Founded in Chicago in 2012, Legal Prep integrates rigorous academics with real-world professional experiences, including law courses at every grade level and monthly skills-based programming with legal and business partners.

In Fall 2026, Legal Prep will open its first Indianapolis campus, launching with 6th and 9th grades and growing into a full 6–12 school. Our founding faculty will play a critical role in shaping the culture, systems, and academic excellence of the school from day one.

Position Overview

This unique hybrid role will:

  • Teach a structured Social-Emotional Learning course for part of the day, and
  • Provide individual and small-group counseling support for students during the remainder of the day.

This role is central to Legal Prep’s trauma-informed, restorative model and will help ensure students develop the resilience, self-awareness, and conflict resolution skills necessary for success in high school and beyond.

Responsibilities

SEL Instruction

  • Teach 9th Grade SEL courses focused on study skills, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, perseverance, and goal-setting.
  • Deliver curriculum aligned to trauma-informed and restorative practices.
  • Support students in developing executive functioning and academic habits.

Counseling & Student Support

  • Provide individual and small-group counseling services.
  • Support crisis intervention and behavior support planning.
  • Partner with families regarding student social-emotional needs.
  • Collaborate with school leadership on restorative practices and discipline systems.

Schoolwide Impact

  • Support implementation of restorative practices.
  • Contribute to a positive, structured school culture.
  • Participate in student support team meetings and data reviews.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, School Psychology, or related field.
  • Valid Indiana license (School Counselor, LCSW, LMHC, or equivalent).
  • Experience working with adolescents in school settings preferred.
  • Strong background in trauma-informed practices and restorative approaches.
  • Ability to build trust with students and families.
  • Commitment to serving students from historically underserved communities.
  • Spanish language proficiency is strongly preferred.

Why Join Legal Prep Indianapolis?

  • Be part of a founding faculty team shaping a new 6–12 charter school.
  • Work in a mission-driven, college-preparatory environment.
  • Collaborate with a supportive and ambitious leadership team.
  • Help build a culture that blends rigor, relationships, and real-world learning.
  • Opportunity for leadership growth as the school expands.
