Job Description

About Legal Prep

Legal Prep Charter Academy is a free, open-enrollment public charter school with a unique law-themed, college-preparatory model designed to prepare students from traditionally underserved communities for success in college, careers, and civic leadership. Founded in Chicago in 2012, Legal Prep integrates rigorous academics with real-world professional experiences, including law courses at every grade level and monthly skills-based programming with legal and business partners.

In Fall 2026, Legal Prep will open its first Indianapolis campus, launching with 6th and 9th grades and growing into a full 6–12 school. Our founding faculty will play a critical role in shaping the culture, systems, and academic excellence of the school from day one.

Position Overview

Legal Prep is seeking a mission-driven, dynamic 6th Grade Teacher to join our founding team. Sixth grade is a critical entry point into our middle school program, and teachers in this role will help students transition successfully to a rigorous, structured, and supportive academic environment.

The ideal candidate believes deeply in high expectations, restorative practices, and culturally responsive teaching. This teacher will deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction while helping build the school’s culture and identity during its founding year.

Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Teach one core subject area (ELA, Math, Science, or Social Studies) to 6th grade students.
  • Develop and deliver daily lesson plans aligned to Indiana Academic Standards.
  • Use formative and summative data to adjust instruction and support student growth.
  • Incorporate critical thinking, writing, discussion, and analytical skills into instruction.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and share best practices.

Advisory & Student Support

  • Serve as an advisory teacher for a cohort of students.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families.
  • Support students’ academic and social-emotional development.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress.

Culture & Community

  • Uphold and reinforce Legal Prep’s culture of high expectations and restorative practices.
  • Implement consistent classroom management systems aligned to schoolwide expectations.
  • Participate actively in professional development, team meetings, and school events.
  • Contribute to student recruitment and family engagement efforts as a founding faculty member.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Valid Indiana teaching license (or ability to obtain one prior to start date).
  • Experience teaching middle school students preferred.
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
  • Commitment to serving students from historically underserved communities.
  • Belief in restorative practices and structured, high-expectations environments.
  • Willingness to contribute to a founding-year school environment.
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

Why Join Legal Prep Indianapolis?

  • Be part of a founding faculty team shaping a new 6–12 charter school.
  • Work in a mission-driven, college-preparatory environment.
  • Collaborate with a supportive and ambitious leadership team.
  • Help build a culture that blends rigor, relationships, and real-world learning.
  • Opportunity for leadership growth as the school expands.
