Job Description

JOB VACANCY 

ELEMENTARY

2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR

VISUAL ARTS TEACHER | CERTIFIED


The Metropolitan School District of Steuben County is seeking a creative and dedicated Visual Arts Teacher to inspire our youngest learners across our elementary schools. This unique role involves bringing art education to life for students in grades K-5 at Carlin Park, Hendry Park, Pleasant Lake Montessori, and Ryan Park Elementary Schools.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Curriculum Design: Create and implement a comprehensive visual arts curriculum for grades K-5 aligned with the Indiana Academic Standards for Fine Arts.
  • Instructional Excellence: Provide hands-on instruction in various mediums (drawing, painting, digital art) to foster student creativity and self-expression.
  • District Collaboration: Travel between two elementary buildings each semester to ensure equitable access to high-quality art education for all district students.
  • Art Showcases: Coordinate annual student art exhibitions and community displays to celebrate student achievement.
  • Positive Climate: Foster an inclusive, safe, and respectful classroom environment that encourages artistic risk-taking.
  • Inclusive Strategies: Implement research-based strategies, including SIOP components, to support diverse learners and ensure all students achieve linguistic growth.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Participate in available Extracurricular Activities as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education or a related visual arts or education field.
  • Licensure: Valid Indiana Teaching License in Fine Arts: Visual Arts (K-12 or P-12), or Elementary Education.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple classroom schedules across different locations.
  • Completion of Safe Hiring Solutions' expanded background check, including the Department of Child Services index.


COMPENSATION

  • Rate of Pay: To be determined based on experience according to the Master Contract
  • Health, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance Benefit-eligible position
  • Indiana Teacher Retirement Fund Contribution-eligible position (Pension)


Start Date: To be determined based upon School Board and Superintendent approval.
