REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Assistant Director of Special Education

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Indiana Department of Education special education license

OVERVIEW: The Special Education Teacher serves as Teacher of Record (TOR) and is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring individualized special education services. This role supports students' academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and functional needs while ensuring compliance with IDEA and Article 7 requirements. The position also includes direct instruction in Executive Functioning skills with an emphasis on practical, real-world application.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs aligned with individual student needs.
Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
Collaborate closely with the Behavior Therapist to analyze data and guide student interventions.
Create a structured, strategic classroom environment using de-escalation and coping strategies.
Plan, coordinate, and facilitate all required meetings and conferences, including 45-day case conferences and progress reporting.
Collaborate with general education teachers to support curriculum access and classroom accommodations.
Use formal and informal assessments to evaluate student progress and prepare data-based progress reports.
Design and teach Executive Functioning classes focused on practical application, including organization, time management, task initiation, self-monitoring, goal setting, and problem-solving skills.
Embed Executive Functioning strategies across instructional settings to support student independence, generalization of skills, and academic success.
Provide Teacher of Service support as directed.
Guide and support instructional assistant(s) to effectively deliver IEP services aligned to the needs of the student(s).
Facilitate opportunities for students with IEPs to participate in an inclusive educational environment.
