Job Summary: Provide instruction in all aspects of construction. Assist students in enhancing their skills in the areas necessary to seek employment in the construction industry. Integrate the instruction of basic skills into the career and technical curriculum, as well as, teach employability skills such as working with others, good attendance, and a positive work ethic. Prepare students for entry level employment into the construction industry or for post-secondary study. Assist students to be successful in vocational education by monitoring their technical, basic skills, and placement records. Assist students in developing their career education plans, and instruct students in resume writing and interview skills.
Qualifications:
Possess a valid Indiana Career & Technical Ed. Trades license or be eligible for Workplace Specialist license based upon 3-5 years work experience in the construction industry
Experience with building a house
Possess a CDL license or have the ability to attain one.
Enthusiasm for Career and Technical Education
Ability to supervise the construction of a residential home.
Outstanding communication skills
Experience assisting students to make viable, realistic career decisions.
Possess skills necessary to maintain classroom management and student professionalism
Professional organizational skills
Have verifiable work experience outside of education
Have the ability to improve and enhance the construction program based upon on industry standards
Ability to develop partnerships with area employers and trades unions
Have a good driving record
Have a clean criminal history background
Experience in vocational education or technical training preferred
Extensive knowledge about careers in the construction industry
Be computer literate
Willing to participate in continuing professional development
Essential Duties & Expectations
Organize and take responsibility for an active and effective program advisory committee
Develop and implement a curriculum within the guidelines of the State Department of Education, and Porter County Career and Technical Education System
Establish relationships with area employers in the food service industry
Maintain current license status and perform the necessary continuing education required to maintain and upgrade licensure
Represent the Career and Technical Education program and the hosting high school with a high degree of professionalism
Develop/maintain dual credit agreements with post-secondary institutions
Direct the instruction of assigned students
Perform all regular and customary duties of a classroom teacher, maintain student discipline, perform required record keeping, inventory equipment and supplies, and perform student attendance keeping responsibilities
Establish communication with students' parents and the sending school administration when necessary
Assist in the performance of all standard and related tasks of the corporation teachers
Assist in the maintenance of all necessary paperwork and records for the class
Maintain communication with teaching colleagues and the PCES Career and Technical Education Department
Responsible to carry out all other duties assigned by the Administration
Terms of Employment:
This position will follow the approved sponsoring corporation calendar (185 days). Other contractual obligations will be assumed based upon the standard teaching agreement.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job shall be evaluated annually by the Building Principal per host school corporation approved policy and by the Director of Career and Technical Education, per procedure established by the Porter County Education Services Board.
