Job Description

John Glenn School Corporation, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a full-time position at Urey Middle School. The successful candidate will play a vital role in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they achieve their full potential. 


Job Requirements:

  • Design and deliver engaging standard-aligned content to Special Education students
  • Use data to drive instruction, remediation, and enrichment 
  • Maintain high standards of academic and behavioral excellence
  • Build relationships and sustain contact with students’ families  
  • Collaborate with colleagues in a professional learning community, particularly the School Psychologist, Special Education Chairperson, Case Conference Coordinator, Building Administration, and General Education Teachers
  • Develop and implement an Individualized Education Plan, and/or Behavior Plan for each child complementary to his/her educational, social, and emotional strengths and weaknesses as defined through the evaluation and IEP process
  • Complete IDOE required annual assessments (i.e., IAM, IREAD, ILEARN)
  • Provide guidance and direction to classroom support staff
  • Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Serve as a resource and collaborate with outside agencies, as appropriate
  • Ensure appropriate accommodations to the curriculum, lessons, and learning environment

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or enrolled in a transition to teaching program for Special Education. 
  • Valid Indiana Special Education teaching license. Candidates with pending licensure may be considered.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs.
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to implement positive behavior support strategies.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.  
  • Proficiency in using technology for instruction, assessment, and communication.
  • Current CPR, Heimlich Maneuver, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Completion of Child Suicide Awareness and Prevention training (or willingness to obtain).
  • Successful completion of background checks and fingerprinting as required by Indiana law.
