Project Lead the Way (PLTW)/ Engineering Technology Education (ETE)

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This role is primarily a Business Information Technology teaching position. The teacher provides an educational program for secondary students in an environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishes effective rapport with students to promote positive attitudes of self-worth; motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further participation in secondary education, college or career, in accordance with each student's ability. Establishes good relationships with students, parents and other staff members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Credential – Any valid credential issued by the State of Indiana to perform the services of a mathematics teacher in a self-contained classroom.
Education – Bachelor's degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
PLTW certification for 5-6 Engineering Technology
The PLTW Teacher will facilitate hands-on STEM learning experiences for 5th and 6th grade students using Project Lead the Way curriculum. This role focuses on building foundational skills in problem-solving, computational thinking, collaboration, and real-world application through coding, robotics, engineering design, and technology integration.
Prior experience teaching or supporting PLTW curriculum.
Familiarity with:
Code.org and/or Scratch (or equivalent coding platforms)
VEX Robotics
Micro:bit programming
Experience facilitating collaborative group projects and student-led problem solving.
Comfort troubleshooting basic hardware/software issues in a classroom setting.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Follow the criteria established in the Duneland School Corporation Evaluation Plan
Provide learning experiences in mathematics, utilizing the course of study mandated by the Duneland School Corporation
Instruct students in citizenship, basic communication skills and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law, administrative regulations, or set by the Duneland School Corporation
Plan, organize, and implement differentiated lessons to meet the diverse needs of students
Establish and implement clear objectives for each lesson
Engage students in meaningful activities to assure student mastery of content
Apply Depth of Knowledge strands in instructional strategies
Maintain accurate and complete records of student performance
Enter student grades in student information system weekly
Engage and confer with parents and colleagues creating healthy relationships with students and faculty to address student academic and behavioral needs and create a quality learning environment
Establish and implement classroom rules and procedures to provide an environment conducive to learning
Administer assessments as required by the State of Indiana and the corporation
Interact with colleagues, parents, and students in a manner that is professional and reflect the expectations of leadership within the school and corporation
Follow all expectations described in the Duneland School Corporation's Teacher Agreement and employee handbook
Follow all procedures and expectations established by the building principal(s) and /or corporation leadership
Monitor and supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
Participate in sponsorship of department, school, faculty and district activities and committees
Keep abreast of developments in your field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional development
Establish a continuity of instruction to ensure you meet our primary obligation of providing a rich and engaging education for your students. Plans allowing for the continuation of instruction whether acts of nature, student, or teacher initiated should be clearly articulated in the class syllabus with quality lesson plans and methods for implementation created in advance
Performs other duties as required and assigned by the building principal(s) and /or corporation leadership

Proficiency in the use of all technology for instruction and record keeping (i.e. computers, copiers, Skyward)
Proficiency in the use of and the ability to learn required instructional software, ( i.e. Microsoft Office, Skyward, Google Docs)
Demonstrate organizational and time management skills
Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisors and district administrators
Deliver PLTW modules aligned to district and state standards.
Guide students through problem-based learning, engineering design, and collaborative projects.
Teach introductory computer science concepts using platforms such as Code.org and Scratch (or similar coding tools).
Integrate VEX Robotics and Micro:bit activities to support coding, circuitry, and robotics concepts.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (includes equipment, hours, physical demands)
Work Environment: Typically works in a classroom and/or office setting with a controlled temperature environment. Occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions may occur depending upon assignments.
Equipment: Required to maintain a working knowledge of all office equipment including personal computers and printers, audio-visual equipment, telephone systems, copiers, fax machines, etc.
Hours: This position is typically expected to work 185 days. Evening or weekend meetings and/or activities will be scheduled as needed. This position may require travel to other offices, meetings, conferences and/or seminars.
Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push/pull, climb, bend, and stoop. Must be able to perform fine motor skills. Visual ability required to read handwritten and/or typed documents, computer screens, etc. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to sit for long periods.
