Job Title: Kindergarten Jump Start Teacher

Program Dates: July 21–23, 2026

Hours: 7:45 AM – 11:45 AM daily

Planning Prep Dates: July 20, 2026 for 4 hours, July 23, 2026 for 4 hours

Locations:  Blue, Gold, WN, VM, SD, LW


Position Overview

The Kindergarten Jump Start Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering a short-term, engaging program that introduces incoming kindergarten students to the routines, expectations, and experiences of a typical kindergarten classroom. This program serves as a “preview” to help students build confidence, reduce anxiety, and develop early school readiness skills prior to the start of the academic year.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons that reflect a typical kindergarten day (e.g., morning routines, circle time, literacy, math, play-based learning).
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment for learners and their families.
  • Introduce and model foundational school behaviors, including: following directions, participating in group activities, and practicing independence (e.g., managing materials, transitions)
  • Support students in developing early skills such as sharing, taking turns, and building relationships with peers.
  • Familiarize students with school routines (arrival, dismissal, restroom procedures, etc.).
  • Communicate positively and effectively with families, providing reassurance and basic information about kindergarten expectations.
  • Collaborate with school staff as needed to ensure a smooth transition into the school year.
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment.


Qualifications

  • Valid teaching license with early childhood or elementary certification.
  • Currently employed by the MSD of Decatur Township as a kindergarten teacher in good standing. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Help students feel comfortable and excited about starting kindergarten.
  • Provide exposure to classroom routines and expectations.
  • Build foundational academic and social skills.
  • Establish a positive first connection between school, students, and families.
