Job Description
TITLE: Elementary STEAM Teacher
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full Time
LOCATION: West Newton Elementary School
The Elementary STEAM Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering an integrated Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) program for students in grades K–6. This role emphasizes inquiry-based learning, problem-solving, creativity, and real-world application of content. The STEAM teacher collaborates with classroom teachers and instructional leaders to support interdisciplinary learning aligned to Indiana Academic Standards and district priorities.
Job Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, STEM field, or related area.
- Valid Indiana teaching license (Elementary Education or appropriate licensure).
- Demonstrated knowledge of elementary pedagogy and instructional best practices.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred
- Experience teaching STEM/STEAM, science, or technology at the elementary level.
- Familiarity with coding platforms, robotics, or makerspace tools.
- Experience with project-based learning (PBL) or inquiry-based instruction.
- Integration of arts into STEM (STEAM approach).
- Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching practices.
Job Description:
Instruction & Curriculum
- Design and implement engaging, standards-aligned STEAM lessons for K–6 students.
- Facilitate hands-on, project-based learning experiences that promote critical thinking, collaboration, and innovation.
- Integrate science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics into cohesive learning units.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs, including students with disabilities and English learners.
- Incorporate digital tools, coding, robotics, and engineering design processes into instruction.
Assessment & Data Use
- Develop and utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
- Use data to inform instruction and provide targeted support.
- Provide timely feedback to students and communicate progress with families and staff.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate STEAM concepts into core instruction.
- Support school-wide initiatives related to STEM/STEAM, innovation, and problem-based learning.
- Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs) and district professional development.
- Serve as a resource for instructional technology and STEAM integration.
Learning Environment
- Establish a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
- Manage materials, equipment, and STEAM lab/classroom space effectively.
- Promote a growth mindset and encourage student curiosity and perseverance.
Family & Community Engagement
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student learning and STEAM opportunities.
- Support or lead extracurricular opportunities such as STEM clubs, robotics teams, or innovation challenges.
- Build partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and higher education to enhance STEAM programming.
