BAND DIRECTOR
TITLE: Band Director
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education or related field.
2. Valid Indiana teaching license with a music endorsement.
3. Prior experience teaching at the high school and/or middle school
preferred.
4. Strong proficiency in conducting and playing multiple instruments.
5. Ability to inspire and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and skill
levels.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Ability to stand for extended periods during rehearsals and performances.
8. Capacity to lift and move musical instruments, equipment and props as
needed.
REPORTS TO: Principal / Assistant Principal
JOB GOAL: To inspire and cultivate a passion for music in students by providing high-quality instruction,
fostering an inclusive and supportive environment, and enhancing the overall music program through
engaging performances and community involvement.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Designs and implements a comprehensive band curriculum that meets the educational goals of
the school and aligns with state standards.
2. Develops and oversees performance opportunities including concerts, competitions, and
community events.
3. Conducts daily rehearsals for band ensembles, including concert bands, marching band, and jazz
ensembles.
4. Collaborates with other music faculty to produce seasonal performances and school-wide
events.
5. Fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and
growth.
6. Mentors students in music theory, instrumental techniques and performance skills.
7. Develops and administers assessments to evaluate student progress and program effectiveness.
8. Manages budgets, equipment and resources for the band program.
9. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and
facilities.
10. Maintains accurate records of student participation, attendance and performance.
11. Communicates effectively with parents, students and faculty regarding program activities and
expectations.
12. Promotes the band program within the community and seeks opportunities for fundraising and
support.
13. Stays current with best practices in music education and seeks relevant professional

development opportunities.
14. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
15. Schedules rehearsals, concerts, competitions, and other evens while ensuring compliance with
school policies and procedures.
