SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
TITLE: Special Education Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related field.
2. Valid Indiana Teaching License with a Special Education endorsement (e.g.,
Mild Intervention, Moderate Intervention) or eligibility and willingness to
obtain one.
3. Experience working with students with various disabilities preferred.
4. Knowledge of individualized education plan (IEP) development,
implementation and assessment.
5. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
6. Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
7. Proficiency in implementing evidence-based instruction and behavior
management strategies.
8. Commitment to ongoing professional development and collaboration with
colleagues and families.
REPORTS TO: Building Administration/Director of Special Education
JOB GOAL: To provide individualized instructional support and interventions to students
with disabilities, ensuring their academic, social and emotional development
in an inclusive educational environment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops and implements individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of
each student.
2. Provides direct instruction and support to students with disabilities in both general and special
education settings.
3. Adapts and modifies curriculum, materials and teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning
needs of students.
4. Assesses and documents student progress towards IEP goals and provides regular feedback to
students and parents.
5. Collaborates with general education teachers to promote inclusive practices and supports the
integration of students with disabilities into mainstream classrooms.
6. Maintains accurate records of student performance, attendance, behavior and provides regular
updates to parents and guardians.
7. Participates in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stays
updated on best practices in special education.
8. Creates a safe and supportive classroom environment that promotes respect, understanding and
inclusivity.
9. Engages in school-wide initiatives and activities, contributing to a positive school culture.
