Job Summary: Special Education Mild Moderate Intervention Teacher

Qualifications:
Valid Indiana certification for the teaching assignment and specialized training for the program area.
Bachelor's Degree or higher in special education, licensure preferably in Mild Disabilities.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, teaching skills, problem solving skills, and willing to assist and support students.
Responsibilities & Duties:Assesses student needs; plans for, guides, and evaluates student learning; communicates student progress to students and parents. Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the building principal or his/her designee.
Provide direct instruction in functional academics, communication, social skills, and independent living skills.
Teach life skills such as personal hygiene, cooking, money use, time management, and community safety.
Modify and adapt curriculum to meet individual learning needs and cognitive levels of students.
Deliver instruction using small group and one-to-one teaching strategies.
Implement structured programs or curricula (e.g., functional academics or life skills programs).
Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with state and federal special education requirements.
Write measurable goals and objectives addressing academic, behavioral, and functional skills.
Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and collect data regularly.
Participate in case conferences/IEP meetings with families and school teams.
Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) as needed.
Teach appropriate social behaviors and self-regulation skills.
Implement positive behavioral support strategies and classroom management systems.
Assist students with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as:
feeding and eating, toileting, grooming, and dressing
Provide or coordinate physical assistance for mobility or positioning when necessary.
Teach pre-employment and vocational skills (e.g., task completion, workplace behavior).
Provide community-based instruction such as shopping, public transportation, or job training experiences.
Support students in developing skills needed for independent living and adult services after high school.
Supervise and provide direction to instructional aides or paraprofessionals in the classroom.
Maintain a safe, structured learning environment for students with complex needs.
Implement schedules, visual supports, and structured routines.
Ensure compliance with:
IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act)
state and district special education policies
Maintain documentation including IEPs, progress reports, and service logs
Collect and analyze student data to evaluate learning and adjust instruction.
Communicate effectively with administration, staff, and parents
Attend all required professional development activities and meetings
Demonstrate high standards of professionalism and ethics
Perform other duties as assigned
Maintain punctual and regular attendance
