6th Grade Math & Science Teacher (2026–2027 School Year)

Location: AMS Little Rock
Salary Range: $53,314 – $56,016 (based on verified full-time teaching experience)

Position Overview

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.

AMS is seeking a passionate and data-driven 6th Grade Math & Science Teacher to deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that builds strong mathematical reasoning and scientific thinking skills. This role focuses on helping students strengthen their quantitative reasoning, problem-solving abilities, and understanding of scientific concepts through engaging and inquiry-based instruction.

The teacher will support students during the transition from elementary to middle school by developing strong academic habits, analytical thinking skills, and confidence in STEM learning.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Achievement

Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned Math and Science instruction aligned with AMS curriculum frameworks.

Teach core mathematical concepts including:

Problem-solving

Mathematical reasoning

Number sense

Algebraic thinking

Guide students in developing scientific inquiry skills including:

Observation

Hypothesis development

Data analysis

Evidence-based reasoning

Differentiate instruction to support students performing above, at, and below grade level.

Use formative and summative assessment data to guide instruction and targeted interventions.

Classroom Culture & Student Support

Establish and maintain a structured classroom environment grounded in high expectations.

Implement PBIS strategies and proactive classroom management practices.

Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.

Foster curiosity, critical thinking, and collaborative learning.

Collaboration & Professional Growth

Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities.

Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional leaders to strengthen instruction.

Engage in data analysis cycles to improve student learning outcomes.

Implement instructional feedback and coaching to refine teaching practice.

Family Engagement

Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and academic performance.

Participate in parent-teacher conferences and family engagement events.

Build strong home-school partnerships that support student success.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, Science, or a related field

OR

Valid state teaching certification in a relevant subject area

OR

Minimum of three (3) years of K–12 teaching experience

Additionally, candidates must:

Demonstrate strong classroom management skills.

Show commitment to serving Title I and diverse student populations.

Demonstrate a data-driven instructional mindset.

Exhibit professionalism, collaboration, and initiative.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Education or related field

Experience teaching upper elementary or middle school mathematics and/or science

Arkansas state teaching certification

Experience implementing STEM-based learning or inquiry-based science instruction

Experience working with Title I or diverse school communities
