Position Title: Middle School / High School Art Teacher (5-12)

Department: Campus

Reports To: Building Principals

Contract: 2026-2027 School Year (190 Days)

SUMMARY:

Mountainburg Public Schools is seeking a creative, student-focused educator to serve as our Middle School / High School Art Teacher. The art teacher will develop in each student an interest in and appreciation for the visual arts while encouraging creativity, self-expression, and artistic skill development consistent with Arkansas Fine Arts Standards. The ideal candidate will foster positive relationships with students and contribute to the overall culture and success of the school community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach art courses to students in grades 5-12 utilizing curriculum aligned with Arkansas teaching and learning standards.
Develop engaging lesson plans and instructional activities in areas such as drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, design, and other visual arts disciplines.
Create learning experiences that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and artistic expression.
Establish and maintain an orderly, safe, and productive classroom environment.
Evaluate and monitor student progress on a regular basis.
Communicate effectively with parents, counselors, and administrators regarding student progress and needs.
Display and celebrate student artwork throughout the school and community when appropriate.
Supervise students in and out of the classroom during assigned duties and activities.
Participate in curriculum development and professional learning activities.
Maintain professional competence through district-provided and self-selected professional development opportunities.
Participate cooperatively with administrators in the evaluation process.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION / LICENSURE / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree required
Appropriate Arkansas teaching license with Art endorsement required
Experience preferred but not required
Candidates with experience in multiple art media, digital art, or advanced art coursework are encouraged to apply
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Appropriate professional conduct with students, staff, parents, and community members at all times
Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
Clear a Background Check through the Arkansas Department of Education state and federal criminal records checks
Clear a Central Registry Check through the Arkansas Child Maltreatment Central Registry system, a division of the Arkansas Department of Human Services

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary: Starting salary for Bachelor’s degree is $50,000. The annual salary is divided into 12 installments, so you receive a steady income over the contract year. Additional compensation is available for additional duties including activity sponsorship, coaching, tutoring, or advanced degrees.  See salary schedule.

Leave: Sick leave is given at a rate of one day per month, with 10 days for a 190 contract, plus 2 days of personal leave.  Personal leave may accumulate up to five days which then rolls over to sick leave.  A sick leave donation bank is available.
