Job Description
JOB GOAL:
The Fine Arts Teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of visual or musical art.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position is a nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days), plus a benefits package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience and LRSD’s salary placement guidelines. FLSA: EXEMPT.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
Valid Arkansas teaching certificate in Art, Instrumental Music K-12, Vocal Music K-12
Teaching experience preferred.
Knowledge of online database management systems.
Evidence of ability to work with diverse student populations.
Evidence of a strong commitment to quality desegregated education.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Evidence of strong organizational skills.
Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. Teach knowledge and skills in art (visual art or instrumental/musical art).
Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations, and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
Demonstrate techniques in activities associated with the visual arts or musical arts.
Understand a variety of “master” techniques.
Knows the fundamentals and different approaches to visual art or musical art techniques.
Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
Instruct students in the proper care and use of tools and equipment.
Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reports.
Maintain inventory records of materials.
Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community.
May sponsor exhibits from outside the school.
Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress
Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs, such as the extended clubs and after-school activities
Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Administration.

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone, and write. Occasionally, the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by the immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
