Job Description

Position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student skills that are fundamental to effective communication and learning; to develop in each pupil skills that are fundamental to good communication; to develop appreciation of social studies; to motivate pupils to read widely for information and recreation; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in the field of Social Studies.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with a valid Arkansas teaching license and applicable level/area endorsement
At least 1-3 years of relevant experience preferred
Highly Qualified Status as determined by the Arkansas Department of Education
Ability to communicate effectively with both children and adults both orally and in writing
Ability to establish effective rapport with pupils and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, teachers, parents, and other staff members

Responsibilities:

Implements the mission, goals, objectives, policies, and course of study of the district
Develops, obtains, and archives materials for the social studies program, including, but not limited to: primary source material, multi-media presentations, and lesson plans
Uses hands-on instructional methods and encourage critical thinking
Excellent organizational and personnel skills
Possesses creativity, able to inspire students’ trust, understand students’ individual needs, demonstrates cultural sensitivity and tolerates stress
Knowledge of State Common Core Curriculum and adopted guidelines
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, school & district staff, and patrons
Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress
Participates in the subject curriculum and other developmental programs
Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve learning problems
Models instruction without being abrasive or judgmental
Uses a variety of technologies including appropriate software programs
Maintains professional competence through participation in professional growth activities
Participates in faculty meetings and committee works, as requested
Uses professionally accepted teaching strategies, techniques and materials to achieve identified lesson objectives
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve an atmosphere in the classroom conducive to learning and an orderly environment
Other duties as assigned by Principal or designee
