Job Description

Assistant Director of Bands / Head Junior High Band Director
Neosho Department of Music - Bands

The Neosho Department of Music is seeking a dynamic and collaborative educator to serve as Assistant Director of Bands and Head Junior High Band Director. This position works closely with students and staff across the middle school, junior high, and high school band programs.

Responsibilities include:

Directing junior high band ensembles and supporting middle school instruction
Assisting with the high school band program, including marching band, concert ensembles, and other performance groups
Leading sectionals, lessons, and rehearsals during camps, before school as well as after school at each level
Supporting all aspects of the band program, including rehearsals, performances, and contests
Collaborating with band staff in a co-teaching environment
Assisting with recruitment and retention of students in the instrumental music program

Qualifications:

Strong background in concert band instruction; experience with marching band and jazz ensemble is highly desirable
Expertise in woodwind or brass instruction preferred, but the best applicant should apply regardless of instrument
Candidates with color guard or drum corps experience are highly encouraged to apply
Demonstrate ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families
Effective communication, organization, and leadership skills
Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-achieving program

Prior public school teaching experience is preferred but not required.
