CERTIFIED POSITION - JAG Teacher (Jobs for America's Graduates)

Certified Teacher's Salary Range: $45,500 - $79,300, full benefits included

Start date: 2026-2027 School Year
Reports To: Building Principal
Salary Schedule: Certified Teacher
FLSA Status: Exempt
Contract Length: 10-month - in accordance with the school calendar

POSITION SUMMARY
The JAG Teacher provides instruction, mentoring, career development, and individualized support to students participating in the Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) program. The JAG Teacher delivers curriculum focused on career readiness, employability skills, leadership development, and workforce preparation while assisting students in overcoming barriers to graduation and successful postsecondary transitions. Ensures that all students acquire the grade level expectation skills set forth by the Missouri Department of Education and Hillsboro R-III curriculum.

The JAG Teacher develops positive relationships with students, families, staff, employers, and community partners to help students achieve academic success, graduate from high school, and pursue postsecondary education, military service, apprenticeships, technical training, or employment opportunities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Instruction and Program Delivery

Plan and deliver the JAG curriculum aligned with state and national JAG program standards.
Teach career readiness, employability skills, leadership development, financial literacy, workplace professionalism, and career exploration.
Create engaging learning experiences that connect classroom instruction to real-world career opportunities.
Assess student progress and maintain appropriate records of student achievement.
Differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of participating students.

Student Support and Mentoring

Develop positive relationships with students and provide ongoing mentoring and guidance.
Assist students in identifying educational, career, and personal goals.
Monitor student attendance, academic performance, behavior, and graduation progress.
Collaborate with counselors, teachers, administrators, and families to support student success.
Provide intervention strategies and support services to help students overcome barriers to achievement and graduation.

Career Readiness and Workforce Development

Assist students with career planning, resume development, interview preparation, and job search skills.
Coordinate career exploration activities, guest speakers, career fairs, workplace visits, and job shadowing opportunities.
Support work-based learning experiences and employer partnerships.
Connect students with postsecondary education, apprenticeship, military, and workforce opportunities.
Promote workplace expectations, professionalism, and employability skills.

Leadership Development

Facilitate student leadership development activities and projects.
Encourage student participation in community service and civic engagement opportunities.
Support student-led initiatives that promote leadership, teamwork, and personal growth.
Assist students in developing communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Program Management and Compliance

Maintain accurate student records and documentation required by district, state, and JAG program guidelines.
Collect and report student outcome data, including graduation, employment, and postsecondary placement information.
Monitor program goals and performance indicators.
Ensure compliance with district policies and JAG program requirements.
Participate in required JAG training, meetings, and professional development activities.

Collaboration and Community Partnerships

Build and maintain relationships with local employers, workforce development organizations, postsecondary institutions, military representatives, and community agencies.
Serve as a liaison between students, families, school staff, and community partners.
Promote awareness and understanding of the JAG program within the school and community.
Participate in district committees, school improvement initiatives, and collaborative planning efforts as assigned.

Follow-Up Services

Assist with required follow-up activities for program graduates.
Support students as they transition to postsecondary education, training, military service, apprenticeships, or employment.
Maintain communication with graduates as required by JAG program standards.

Other Duties

Attend faculty meetings, professional development activities, and district events.
Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or district administration

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Required

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Valid Missouri teaching certificate in any appropriate certification area. Preference may be given to candidates with certification in Career Education, Business Education, Guidance and Counseling, Alternative Education, or related fields, and experience working with at-risk students and career readiness programs.
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, families, staff, employers, and community partners.
Demonstrated skills in communication, organization, leadership, and collaboration.
Knowledge of career readiness, workforce development, postsecondary planning, and employability skills.
Ability to maintain confidential student information and comply with district, state, and federal regulations.
Successful completion of all background checks and employment requirements established by the district and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

Preferred

Experience working with students who are at risk of not graduating or who face academic, social, economic, behavioral, or personal barriers to success.
Experience in career and technical education (CTE), counseling, alternative education, workforce development, mentoring, or student support services.
Knowledge of local business, industry, workforce development programs, and community resources.
Experience coordinating internships, job shadowing opportunities, service-learning projects, or work-based learning experiences.
Experience developing partnerships with businesses, postsecondary institutions, and community organizations.
Experience collecting and reporting program performance data.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with Board policy, district procedures, and JAG program expectations.
